With home offices being the new norm; be it working from home or homeschooling your kids, things probably aren’t going to change or go back to how they were. With this in mind, I wanted to share a few quick tips for decorating your home office on a budget.

Creating the Right Space

If you’re on a budget, this is the biggest consideration when creating your office. Finding a creative space in your busy house can be very tricky, keeping motivated when working from home can be hard. It doesn’t need to be a perfect space or even super-personalised, but you should really consider where you’ll sit and the space you need to devote to work. Perhaps a large table to accommodate multiple monitors is your preference? More and more, people are gravitating towards the idea of multi-monitor setups. If you’re really limited on space, maybe you can corner of a section of a room and use dividers or separators, to split you away from everyday home life – you really don’t want to get distracted by the washing or day time TV.

Get the Right Light in Your Home Office

What you see in your home office is absolutely vital to making it a productive and beautiful space. Getting your work done in the right lighting and having an idea of where things are, is essential to a successful home office. We all want to keep our home offices clean and organised, yet we also want them to have a home office ‘look’ that doesn’t cost a small fortune. Making sure the lighting is correct can be one of the cheapest ways to creating a successful home office space. Ensuring your home office has the necessary windows is such an effective way of creating a bright, productive space.

Choosing the Right Home Office Colours

Colours play a huge role in setting the tone of a room. Although you may need to make do with the dreary, dark and boring tones, this doesn’t mean you can’t bring a little splash of colour in with accessories and colour-blocking. When I took the plunge and added some cool dark grey accessories into my office, it felt like a breath of fresh air! To avoid making over too much of your home office, it’s best to try and opt for a lighter shade, so you have some added colour. Choose the right fabric The fabric you use on your home office desk is a good place to start. Soft and muted colours, such as pastel yellow and blue, are best for creating a sense of calm. They also work well with your personal tastes and style.

Invest in the Right Office Chair

An office chair is an investment, and it can get expensive, so be careful and shop around. Whilst working at home, you can find yourself falling into bad habits, but sitting in an uncomfortable chair, putting you in a bad position, damaging your posture, shouldn’t be one of these habits. Make sure your chair not only fits the style of the room but is also good for your body.

Stay Motivated

Keep yourself motivated! As mentioned earlier, you can really find yourself falling into bad habits or getting stressed when working from home. Doing the washing up, watching TV, having lie-ins and starting work 5 minutes after you wake up. Avoid these at all costs – keep yourself motivated and focused on work. Try to keep your home office separate from everyday home life – decorate your space more like an office and less like a bedroom or living room. The rewards in productivity will really pay off.
